We became interested in the breed when attending our first dog show in San Marcos, Texas in 1995. Watching all these glorious hounds with their magnificant long flowing coat, we were mesmerized and captivated, and knew right then that we had to have one. We started asking at the shows and eventually an exhibitor referred us to a friend of hers, Toni King of Bakura Afghans. After speaking with Toni for a while we set a date to visit and see a litter she had. When we arrived at Toni's kennel, all the pups ran to me except for this one gorgeous cream girl who kept her distance - it was love at first sight! It was beyond her to show much affection, she was a true oriental princess and became the Queen of our hearts ever since. So much so that we have decided to name our kennel in her honor - Bakura's Kyandra Voodoo, JC (1995-2005).

Toni King wanted a show home for her, so when we picked her up we promised we would try to show her and see what that was like. We first started at matches and soon after we were traveling throughout the state showing. This has given us a wonderful opportunity to spend good quality time together as a family and has introduced our daughter to the wonderful world of junior handling for which she seems to have great talent and promise in. Her name is Natasha, she is 17. We also have two boys, Nelson 18 who's very talented in art, especially caricatures. His work has been published in Our Afghans magazine and the Afghan Hound Review. Our youngest son is Esteban 14, who just loves to play with the puppies.

We feel very fortunate to be owned and loved by all our wonderful hounds and wish that many other people could experience this wonderful breed.

If you are interested in a pet perhaps you should consider a rescue first. There are so many in need of good homes.
If you are interested in a rescue Afghan, please contact your local Afghan Hound Club or
Amy Peake with The Afghan Hound Club of America Rescue.
